Track and Field Snags Central Region USTFCCCA Honors

Regional Athletes & Coaches of the Year honors have been announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 20025 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field season. Doane, which is located in the Midwest Region, was recognized with a couple of honors.

The Men's Track Athlete of the Year honor in the Central Region went to senior Zach Turner, who is having a record-breaking season. Turner holds the all-time NAIA records in the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles while also anchoring the 4x110m shuttle hurdle relay. In the 110m hurdles, he has a wind-legal time of 13.52 and an all-conditions time of 13.49 with a 7.6m/s tailwind. In the 400m hurdles, Turner became the first in NAIA history to go sub-50 with a time of 49.99.

Both the Men's and Women's Head Coach of the Year honor went to Ed Fye following the Tigers' sweep of the GPAC Championships. On the men's side, 36 athletes earned All-GPAC honors while Doane leads the national #EventSquad Rankings in three events - the 110m hurdles, discus, and hammer throw. On the women's side, 25 athletes earned All-GPAC honors while seven events are in the Top 5 of the national #EventSquad Rankings, including the No. 1 team in the shot put. Doane will take 20 men and 16 women to compete at the NAIA Championships next week in Marion, Indiana.

The Men's Assistant Coach of the Year honor was awarded to Logan Hammond. Hammond, alongside fellow assistant coach Tim Jasnoch, has guided the men's hurdlers to new heights. Doane ranks first in the 110m hurdles in the #EventSquad Rankings while sitting second in the 400m hurdles. Doane's hurdle squad accounted for 44 points at the GPAC Championships. Along with the records set by Zach Turner, as mentioned above, the Tigers will also have freshman Andrew Brown competing at the NAIA Championships next week in both hurdles races.
