Men's Track and Field Holds Home Competition

CRETE, Neb. - Doane turned in a strong all-around showing on its home track at the Jim Dutcher Memorial, highlighted by event victories across the sprints, middle distance, relays, jumps and throws April 15-16 & 19 in Crete.

Connor Bradley led the way on the track with a pair of sprint titles, winning the 100 meters in 10.86 and the 200 meters in 22.14. Joaquin Gutierrez added another victory for the Tigers in the 400 meters with a time of 49.37, while Doane also placed multiple runners near the top of the sprint events. Gutierrez was third in the 200 at 22.24, Jaiden Gonzalez finished fifth in 22.53 and Orion Ulmer took seventh in 23.04. In the 400, Lincoln Konrad placed fifth in 51.20, Dakota Miser was seventh in 51.56 and Ulmer followed in eighth at 51.59.

The Tigers were especially strong in the middle-distance and distance races. Jayden Wall claimed the 1,500-meter title in 4:00.35 and later won the 5,000 meters in 15:00.28. Porter Bickley added a third-place finish in the 1,500 at 4:01.57, while Alex Fowler took fourth in 4:06.71. Michael Grigsby led a solid Doane group in the 800 meters with a runner-up finish in 1:54.90, followed by Emmanuel Yego in third at 1:55.76, Lucas Gautier in fifth at 1:56.74 and Luke Bonifas in sixth at 1:57.13. In the 10,000 meters, Alvin Keter won the seeded race in 32:09.09 and Kale Maguire captured first in the unseeded section with a time of 34:46.69.

Doane also excelled in the hurdles and relays. Caleb Mulder won the 400 hurdles in 55.24 and Zachary Fox finished second in 56.24, giving the Tigers the top two spots in the event. Jonathan Zoubek added a fourth-place finish at 57.94, while Avyan Correa was fifth in 58.07. In the 110 hurdles final, Bladen Garcia finished third in 15.39, Tate Washington was fourth in 15.41 and Carter Niles took fifth in 15.58. Tommy Smith posted a 14.39 in the preliminaries, a NAIA "B" standard mark, though wind conditions were above the allowable limit for record or qualifying purposes. In the relays, Doane's "A" team of Orion Ulmer, Lincoln Konrad, Lucas Gautier and Caleb Mulder won the 4x400 in 3:19.67, while the Tigers narrowly missed a title in the 4x100, taking second in 42.99.

The field events brought more standout performances for the Tigers. Jackson Kessler and Peyton Herrick tied for first in the high jump at 2.03 meters (6-7.75), while Bladyn Herrick and Presston Duryea tied for fourth at 1.93 meters. Roe Patton won the pole vault with a clearance of 4.55 meters (14-11), and Ashton Pulliam added a third-place finish at 4.25 meters.

Doane swept the top three spots in the long jump as Michael Willey won with a mark of 6.87 meters (22-6.5), Maddox Wagoner was second at 6.77 meters (22-2.5) and Callan McKinney finished third at 6.60 meters (21-8). McKinney also won the triple jump with a leap of 13.89 meters (45-7), while Ridge Bredthauer placed third at 13.01 meters and Wagoner was fourth at 12.99 meters.

In the throws, Andrew Schmitz turned in one of the top performances of the weekend. He won the shot put with a NAIA "B" standard toss of 16.19 meters (53-1.5) and also captured the hammer throw title with another NAIA "B" standard mark of 58.21 meters (191-0). Christopher Brown led a dominant Doane effort in the discus with a winning NAIA "B" mark of 51.51 meters (169-0). Cale Bessler was second at 50.69 meters and Andrew Englund placed third at 49.77 meters, both also hitting NAIA "B" standards. DaMarcus Cannon added a fourth-place finish in the discus at 47.28 meters, while Jaden Vollenweider took fifth at 46.52 meters. In the hammer, Tad Dimmitt finished third at 54.11 meters, Vollenweider was fourth at 52.46 meters and Brown added seventh at 50.64 meters. Doane controlled the shot put as well, with Colton Dillon placing second at 15.60 meters and Cannon taking third at 15.53 meters behind Schmitz.

Mason Crumbliss added a runner-up finish in the javelin with a throw of 52.75 meters (173-1), while Cale Suckstorf placed third at 42.62 meters.

In the decathlon, Pryor Mathews led the Tigers with a third-place finish and 5,524 points. Tysen Fleischman followed in fourth with 5,380 points, Maxwell Fiser was fifth with 5,080 and Zach Fye finished sixth with 4,960.

Overall, Doane showed its depth throughout the three-day meet, piling up victories and top finishes in nearly every event group while posting several NAIA "B" standard marks in front of the home crowd.
