Boldmaa Wins 100th Match at Doane; Men's Wrestling Tops #18 Vikings

The final match of the Concordia Duals for the Doane Men's Wrestling team was against No. 18 Missouri Valley. The Tigers won the first nine matches as they coasted to a 38-3 victory to improve to 10-0 on the season in dual action.

Nathan Rizek capped a big day with an 18-1 tech fall victory over Elijah Asuncion. After one period, Rizek led 6-0 behind a takedown and a pair of two-point near-fall counts. In the second period, he collected a takedown and four near-fall points to take a 12-0 lead. Asuncion picked up his lone point with an escape to start the third period but Rizek picked up a takedown and four near-fall points to stop the match with 40 seconds to go.

In the 133 match, Devin Avedissian defeated Hayden Williams by decision, 7-3. Avedissian led 2-1 after the first period. He extended his lead to 5-2 in the second period as Williams was tagged with a stalling penalty and Avedissian recorded a takedown with five seconds left. In the final period, Avedissian added another takedown to cap his scoring in the match.

The first of two Top 10 battles in the match for the Tigers was a memorable one for Baagii Boldmaa. He took on No. 10 Joseph Rice and posted a pin at 2:21. Boldmaa recorded four takedowns in the opening period before setting Rice up for the rollover into a pin.

For Boldmaa, the victory was his 100th career win as a Tiger. His Doane win total is in the Top 15 of the GPAC era of wrestling. His 47 wins at Northwest Kansas Tech prior to attending Doane gives him 147 career college wins.

Nate Lendt followed with a 16-1 tech fall victory over Bryson Anderson in the 149 battle. Lendt recorded two takedowns in the first minute and earned 10 near-fall points before the period came to a close. The second period saw Lendt hit a takedown 12 seconds in to stop the match.

A tight match followed at 157 as Gabriel Keith took on Larry Rodriguez. After the first period, Keith led 2-1 as he picked up a takedown 12 seconds in. Rodriguez escaped at the 30 second mark and the two remained in the neutral position the rest of the period. In the second, Keith started in the bottom position and picked up a reversal for a 4-1 lead. Rodriguez returned the favor in the third and picked up a reversal of his own early on. Keith was able to fight off the scoring attempts of Rodriguez in the final seconds to pick up the win.

The first period of the 165 match determined the outcome as Benjamin Dobler out-scored Brody von Brethorst, 12-1, after three minutes of action. He had two takedowns and a pair of four-point near-falls. Dobler would land a takedown in the third period as he won 14-3.

Chinges Tsermaa nearly equalled Dobler's first period as he rolled past Drake Tipton, 15-1. Tsermaa hit a takedown at 1:52 and followed with a pair of four-point near-falls to take a 10-0 lead as time ran out in the first period. Tsermaa added a takedown in each of the final two periods and picked up a riding time point to earn his 15-point total.

Garrett Cornwell took on No. 11 Karim Shakur at 184. In a tight battle, Cornwell would pick up an 7-6 upset victory. The first period went Cornwell's way as he led 4-2 after three minutes. Shakur had top control and Cornwell would pick up an escape with 35 seconds left. A penalty point, the second of the match, would be awarded to Cornwell as he led 6-2 after two periods. Shakur pulled within a point, 6-5, with an escape and takedown but Cornwell would get his own escape to regain an important two-point lead. Shakur picked up a riding time point for the final score.

Bradley Antesberger won by tech fall, 16-1, over Athonie Banuelos. Antesberger ended the match in the first period as he recorded two takedowns and a trio of four-point near fall counts.

No. 10 Brandon Antesberger took on No. 7 Joshua Isaac in the final match of the day. Isaac picked up one takedown in each period as he collected a 7-2 victory.

Next up for the Tigers will be the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, Ky., on January 6-7. Doane's first opponent will be announced following the December 29 NAIA rankings release.
