GPAC Names Boldmaa Wrestler of the Week
Doane Men's Wrestler Baagii Boldmaa has been tabbed the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Wrestler of the Week for his performance last week at the NWCA-NAIA National Duals. Boldmaa went 3-0 against three Top 10 opponents on the weekend. This is the third time Boldmaa has received the honor this year and is the ninth of his career.
The Tigers opened the tournament against NAIA No. 19 Oklahoma City on Friday. Boldmaa stepped to the mat to take on Caden Manion, ranked No. 4 at 141. Manion struck first with a takedown only to have Boldmaa escape quickly and follow with his own takedown. Boldmaa went on to win 10-7.
In the Quarterfinal Round, Doane faced off against No. 5 Indiana Tech. Awaiting Boldmaa at 141 was Kyle Kantola, ranked No. 6 in the weight class. Boldmaa posted a 10-3 decision victory, missing a riding time point by one second which would have given him a major decision.
Boldmaa did not wrestle for the Tigers in the Semifinals against Grand View. His final match would come in the team's Third Place match against No. 3 Southeastern (Fla.). In the 141 battle, Boldmaa took on No. 3 Parker Dobrocky. Boldmaa led 4-2 after the first period behind two takedowns and held an 8-7 lead going into the final period. He started in the bottom position and escaped eight seconds into the period to post a 9-7 victory.
Doane went 3-1 at the tournament and brought home a Third Place trophy for the second straight season. The Tigers return to action on Friday, January 13, with a dual at Concordia.
