Men's Wrestling Rolls to 15th Win of Season

Doane Men's Wrestling hosted their final home dual of the season Tuesday as they entertained Hastings in front of one of the largest crowds to take in a match in program history. The Tigers did not disappoint their fan base as they recorded a 52-0 victory over the Broncos. The victory was the 15th of the season for the Tigers, tying a single-season record.

There were four forfeit victories for the Tigers on the night with Hunter Bennett at 125, Tristan Zamilpa at 157, Garrett Cornwell at 184, and Cael Jordan at 197 picking up wins.

Roberto Cordova made his varsity debut at 133 and took on Christian Mizzell. Cordova led 2-0 after the first period and 6-0 after two periods. He would collect a takedown and four near-fall points in the third as he went on to a 14-1 major decision.

In the 141 match, Baagii Boldmaa hooked up with Andy Rojas. Boldmaa recorded four takedowns and four near-fall points as he finished off Rojas with a pin at 1:49. It would be the only pin for the Tigers on the night.

Nate Lendt followed at 149 with another quick match in defeating Dalton Michael by tech fall, 16-0. Lendt posted a takedown which was followed by three sets of four-point near-fall counts and was capped with a two-point near-fall. The match ended in 1:39.

A major decision victory was claimed by Benjamin Dobler at 165 as he defeated Cole Maschmann, 17-6. Dobler recorded four takedowns in the opening period on his way to a 10-3 lead. He added two points in the second period and capped off the match with two takedowns in the third period. The win was the 25th of the season for Dobler.

Terungwa Unongo made his varsity debut as well with a match at 174. This would be the closest match of the night as Unongo tangled with Keenan Griffin. Unongo recorded two takedowns in the first period and led 4-1. He had a 4-2 lead after two periods. In the third, he started in the bottom position and earned an escape which was followed by a takedown. He rode out Griffin to pick up a riding time point for an 8-2 victory.

In the final match, Brandon Antesberger faced off with Henry Jones. The two met twice last season with Antesberger picking up a pair of decision victories. The first period saw most of the action on the wrestlers' feet with Antesberger picking up a takedown late for a 2-0 lead after three minutes. He would add another takedown in the second period for a 4-0 lead. In the third, Antesberger picked up a reversal but the match would have to be stopped immediately due to an injury that Jones had been trying to fight through. The win moved Antesberger to 25 wins on the season.

Doane will send a contingent to the Missouri Valley Open on January 20-21 in Marshall, Mo. The Tigers' next dual will be as part of the GPAC Duals #2 on January 28.
