Men's Wrestling Breaks Single-Season Wins Record
Doane Men's Wrestling opened the second GPAC Duals of the year with Jamestown across the mat. The Tigers blanked the Jimmies, 51-0, to pick up their fourth straight GPAC shutout. The win moved the Tigers' record to 16-1, setting a single-season school record for victories.
Hunter Bennett opened the match at 125 with a pin of Elijah Barajas in 4:04. He held a 4-0 lead at the time of the pin after picking up a reversal to open the second period. Devin Avedissian defeated Jace Goebel by pin in 1:33. Avedissian held a 14-0 lead at the time of the pin.
Baagii Boldmaa picked up an 18-3 tech fall victory in 3:34 over Jahn Williams at 141. He led 14-2 after the first period. Nate Lendt was a 3-2 victor over Tommy Beringer at 149. The difference in the match came in the opening period when Lendt recorded a takedown.
Tristan Zamilpa picked up a forfeit win at 157 with Benjamin Dobler recording a forfeit win at 165.
Michael Scarponi won by tech fall over Carson Toedter, 19-4 at 5:52. He led 2-0 after the first period and 10-3 after the second period. Garrett Cornwell won 12-5 at 184 over Trystan Rogers. Cornwell led 5-3 after the opening three minutes and 9-5 after two periods.
Bradley Antesberger returned to the mat for the first time in over a month and posted a 16-1 tech fall win in 3:42. He defeated Deklin Goeden at 197 by holding a 10-1 lead after the first period. Samuel Peterson closed out the victory with a pin at 285 over Ian Howell. Peterson trailed after the first period, 3-2, and tied the match 3-3 after the second period. In the third, Howell took the down position and Peterson picked up four near-fall points before finishing off the match with a pin at 5:30.
Doane's second match of the day will be against Dakota Wesleyan.
