Men's Wrestling Records Road Win at York
Doane Men's Wrestling returned to the mat on Tuesday evening as they picked up a match with York (Neb.). The Tigers picked up a 38-13 victory over the Panthers to improve to 18-2 on the season in dual action.
The match opened with Arian Alai picking up a forfeit win at 125. In the second match at 133, Nathan Rizek took on Harley Williamson. After a high scoring first period in which Rizek led 10-8, Williamson came back with a reversal to set up a pin at 4:08.
In the 141 match, Benjamin Miller posted a 16-1 tech fall win in the first period over Julian Marrufo. He recorded three four-point near-fall scores to cap off the win. Tristan Brown was a victor by pin at 149 over Drew Lugafet. He scored the pin in 1:34.
York picked up a win at 157 as Quentyn Frank was defeated by John Fox in an 8-0 major decision. Cooper Spaulding gave the Tigers a 10-4 decision victory over Dayton Fraser in the 165 match-up.
Terungwa Unongo took the mat at 174 and faced off with Shawn Pierre. Pierre held a 4-2 lead after the first period and extended the lead to 10-5 after the second. He finished with a 12-5 decision over Unongo.
Doane received forfeit wins at 184 by Chase Stieb and 197 by Garrett Cornwell. Samuel Peterson finished off the night at 285 for Doane, taking on Deonnie Graves. Peterson posted a first round pin at 2:54.
Next up for the Tigers will be a dual at Saint Mary (Kan.) on Wednesday, February 8, at 7 PM.
