Men's Wrestling Blanks Midland in Road GPAC Win
Men's Wrestling traveled to Fremont on Thursday evening to take on Midland in a conference dual. Doane shutout the Warriors for the third straight season, posting a 56-0 victory.
The Tigers opened the match with a pair of forfeit wins at 125 and 133. In the 141 bout, Tristen Brown returned back to the weight class after wrestling down last weekend. He posted a 10-4 decision over Trevin Arlt to give the Tigers a 21-0 lead.
Nate Lendt broke his school record for fastest pin at 149 in the next match. He needed 26 seconds to defeat Adrian Delgado. Gavin Smith earned his first varsity win with a pin at 157. He defeated Zion Amerson in 2:24. Preston Gautier pinned Trey McDougald in 4:55 at 165. It was Gautier's first varsity win as well.
In the 174 match, Midland was open which gave Terungwa Unongo the victory. Chase Stieb wrestled his first match as a newly ranked wrestler at 184. The NAIA No. 19 wrestler posted a pin in 2:05 over Nate McDonald.
Doane had two wrestlers move up a weight class in the final two matches and put on dominant performances. Tyson Beauperthuy, ranked No. 5 at 184, defeated Connor Rinn at 197 by tech fall, 22-7, in 3:56. He had seven takedowns in the match. In the 285 match, Kasten Grape posted the win. Grape, ranked No. 6 at 197, was able to pin Ryan Kocovsky in 16 seconds for the third-fastest pin in program history.
The Tigers will return to action in 2024 when they head to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for the NWCA National Duals. Pairings will be set about a week before the competition.
