Men's Wrestling Edged in NWCA National Duals Opener

Men's Wrestling opened the NWCA National Duals on Friday as they took on No. 18 Southern Oregon. The match was as close as it could be without a tie-breaker coming into effect as the Raiders held off the Tigers, 21-20. Both teams won five matches in the dual.

Southern Oregon opened with three straight wins to take a 15-0 lead early on. Doane won five of the final seven matches as the Raiders held off the Tiger rally. Nate Lendt put Doane on the board with a win at 149, a major decision of 16-4. Ben Miller was able to post a 6-4 decision at 165 as he and his opponent, Dylan Straley, wrestled up a weight class. Miller is ranked No. 12 at 157 and Straley is ranked No. 25.

Doane went into the final three matches trailing 21-7. Tyson Beauperthuy picked up a tech fall victory at 184, 23-8. Bradley Antesberger defeated NAIA No. 15 Andrew Herrera at 197 by major decision, 12-3. Kasten Grape wrestled up a weight class to compete at heavyweight and won by major decision, 16-7.

The Tigers fell into the consolation bracket and will face Marian (Ind.) in their second match of the day at 11:30 AM.
