Criblez Places at Missouri Valley Invite
Men's Wrestling took eight wrestlers to Marshall, Mo., to compete in the Missouri Valley Invite on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers placed 32nd overall.
Eli Criblez was the only Tiger to advance into the second day of action as he placed seventh overall at 285. He opened with a 6-1 victory before dropping his first match, a 2-1 decision to NAIA No. 6 Joshua Isaac of Missouri Valley. He bounced back with a win by injury and medical forfeit to move into Saturday's action. He opened the second day with a 4-1 overtime victory over Cohle Feliciano of Life (Ga.), the top ranked team in the NAIA. Criblez suffered his second loss of the weekend in his next match, a 3-2 triple overtime loss to NAIA No. 9 Alton Allen of Briar Cliff. He bounced back with a 2-1 overtime win to earn his placement and go 5-2 on the weekend.
Chase Stieb went 3-2 at 184 on the weekend, just missing out on advancing into Saturday's action. He posted a pin (2:54) in his opening match and a 7-1 win in his second bout. Stieb dropped his third match to Grand View's Jameel Coles but bounced back with an 8-0 major decision victory in the consolation bracket. His final match was an 8-7 decision in favor of Kaden Martin of Arizona Christian.
Hunter Bennett went 1-2 at 125, defeating Clemente Delgado of Graceland, 7-1. His two losses came to NAIA Top 20-ranked wrestlers. Russell Nickerson also went 1-2 at 125 with both losses coming to ranked wrestlers. He defeated Grady Romshek of Benedictine by pin in 1:01.
Tristen Brown had the same fate as his teammates at 125. Brown was 1-2 at 141 with both losses coming to ranked wrestlers. He defeated Michael Tharpe of Indiana Tech by pin in 4:12.
Next up for the Tigers will be the GPAC Duals in Sioux City on Saturday, January 27. The Tigers take a 4-0 conference record into the day, tied with Dakota Wesleyan and Morningside atop the GPAC standings. Doane will face both teams, along with Jamestown, during the day.
