Beauperthuy Takes Second at Pan-Am Games

Tyson Beauperthuy, a member of the Doane Men's Wrestling program, took part in his second international wrestling tournament since joining the Tigers last fall. In September 2023, he took third place at the World Beach Wrestling Championships while representing Team USA. On Friday, June 21, he traveled to Colombia to represent Team USA once again, this time competing at the Pan-American Games in Greco-Roman Wrestling. Beauperthuy walked away with another medal, taking second place at 87 kg.

His tournament opened with a match against Mexico's Carlos De Jesus Salazar Gomez. Beauperthuy was the aggressor in the match, however, he had two takedown attempts that slipped over the shoulders of his opponent and resulted in takedown points for Gomez. The match went to Gomez by decision, 5-1.

Beauperthuy dropped his second match to eventual champion Brian Jesus Ruiz Marin by tech fall, 9-0. Ruiz Marin is representing Venezuela.

In the third match of his round robin bracket, Beauperthuy took on Eduardo Manuel Vega Garcia of Panama. He made quick work in picking up his first win of the tournament, taking an 8-0 tech fall in 38 seconds.

The final match of the day for Beauperthuy came against Colombia's Brandon Calle Perez. Perez was sitting in second place with one loss after knocking off Gomez while Beauperthuy was in fourth place based on criteria, but tied with Gomez with two losses.

Perez received the first point of the match with a stalling call against Beauperthuy. On the restart, the Tiger wrestler would have to start down on the mat. Perez attempted to pick up Beauperthuy, only to be reversed to put Beauperthuy in front 2-1. The match came to a close at 1:48 as Beauperthuy was able to finish off the reversal with a pin and force a three-way tie for second place.

Criteria was used to determine the final placing with Beauperthuy earning the necessary points, 10 in total, to take Second Place and break the three-way tie. He received a point for scoring in his opening match, four points for his tech fall win, and five points for his pin to push ahead of Perez, who took third overall.

Beauperthuy won the U23 U.S. National Championship at the end of May in Geneva, Ohio. He was also a NAIA national qualifier this past March for Doane at 184 lbs.
