Beauperthuy Wins Top 4 Matchup; Men's Wrestling Downs Corban

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — The 11th-ranked Doane men's wrestling team used early momentum and three falls to secure a 28-19 victory over No. 18 Corban on Saturday at the NWCA/NAIA National Duals.

The Tigers opened the dual with a commanding 12-0 advantage after receiving back-to-back forfeits at 125 and 133 pounds from Ray Ray Harris and Matthew Terrence, respectively. Corban answered with a major decision at 141 and a tech fall at 149, but Doane regained control when eighth-ranked Ben Miller pinned Gus Menne in just 57 seconds at 157 pounds to push the lead to 18-9.

Corban trimmed the margin with wins at 165 and 174, closing within 18-16 midway through the dual. The swing bout came at 184 pounds, where top-ranked Tyson Beauperthuy delivered a dominant 17-5 major decision over fourth-ranked Isaiah Twait, giving Doane critical separation heading into the upper weights.

Doane sealed the dual at 197 pounds as 12th-ranked Jaren Jackson needed only 38 seconds to secure a fall against Asaiah Kamplain, extending the Tigers' advantage to 28-16. Corban picked up a narrow decision at heavyweight, but the outcome was already decided.

In addition to Miller and Jackson, Beauperthuy's major decision proved pivotal in the team score. The Tigers finished the dual with two falls, two forfeits, and a major decision to earn the nine-point victory.

The win marked a strong performance for Doane against a ranked opponent as the Tigers continued competition at the NAIA National Duals in Cedar Falls later in the afternoon. They will have a rematch with their opening round opponent, No. 8 Embry-Riddle.
