Doane Softball closed out the Friends Invitational on Saturday with a 1-1 day. The Tigers opened with a 7-0 win over York before dropping a narrow 3-2 decision to Bethany.
In the opener, the Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Camry Moore doubled in the first run of the game and an error would later allow two more runs to cross the plate.
Shelby Robinson hit her first collegiate home run in the third inning and it came with the bases loaded. The grand slam put the Tigers up 7-0.
While the Tiger offense came up with timely runs, Moore was dealing in the pitcher's circle. She held the Panthers to one hit, a two-out single in the fifth inning. Moore finished the game with 7.0 innings pitched, striking out 10 and allowing only two base runners (a single and a hit batter).
Doane finished with nine hits, two from Megan Elliott. Moore scored twice while Robinson led the way with four RBI.
In the second game, Bethany pushed a single run across the plate in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead.
Doane came back to tie the game in the top of the 6th inning. With two outs in the inning, back-to-back errors on the Swede defense gave the Tigers two runners on in scoring position. Megan Elliott took advantage of the opportunity and delivered a two-run single to tie the game.
Bethany was able to come back in the bottom of the inning and scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice bunt. The Tigers threatened in the 7th inning as Angelina Esqueda singled and Grace Dowding walked. Both runners moved up on a ground out but neither was able to cross the plate prior to the game ending.
Faith Molina threw a complete game for the Tigers, going 6.0 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out four.
Doane finished with five singles in the game from five different players.
The Tigers return to action on Thursday, March 9, with a doubleheader at MidAmerica Nazarene. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
