Jimmies Hold Off Softball's Rally Attempts in GPAC Match-up
Doane Softball returned home on Friday afternoon and played host to Jamestown in a pair of GPAC contests. The Tigers played their fourth extra innings contest of the season in the opener, dropping an 8-5 decision in 11 innings. In game two, the teams played until it was almost too dark to continue with Jamestown coming out on top, 6-3.
In game one, Jamestown picked up a run in the first inning on an RBI-groundout. Doane came back to tie the game in the second inning as Britney Hoffman stole second. The throw to the bag was off-line and went into the outfield, allowing Jayden Young to score from third base. The Tigers took the lead in the third inning with a two-out RBI-double from Anna Prauner to plate Shelby Robinson. Jamestown tied the game, 2-2, in the sixth inning with a two-out single.
After three scoreless frames of extra inning play, Jamestown broke through with six runs in the 11th inning. Three of the Jimmie runs came with two outs and would prove to be the insurance they needed. In the bottom of the inning, Robinson doubled to score Jaiden Papik, who was pinch running. An error allowed two more runs to score before Jamestown was able to get out of the inning.
Camry Moore started for Doane and threw 156 pitches as she covered 10.1 innings of work. She allowed 12 hits, six runs (four earned), and struck out 10 batters. Emily Haines threw 0.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits.
Doane finished the game with 10 hits as Robinson went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Two of her hits were doubles. Grace Dowding and Prauner added two hits apiece, with both of Prauner's hits going for doubles. Young added a triple to give the Tigers five extra base hits in the game.
In the second game, Jamestown jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. The Jimmies used a three-run home run in the first and an RBI-single in the second to account for their runs.
Doane picked up their first run in the third inning on an RBI-double by Moore. In the seventh inning, Jamestown added two runs with a pair of doubles. The Tigers answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, the first on an error and the second on a wild pitch.
Faith Molina threw a complete game for the Tigers. In 7.0 innings of work, she allowed six runs (five earned) on 10 hits and two walks while striking out nine.
Doane had seven hits in the game, two from Moore. Her RBI-double was the only extra base hit for the Tigers in the second game.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, April 22, as they play host to Dakota Wesleyan at 1:00 PM in Crete.
