Softball Drops Season Opener
Softball opened the season on Friday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa, playing indoors at the American State Bank Tournament hosted by Dordt. The Tigers took on Culver-Stockton in the opener, falling 9-1 in six innings as the Wildcats pulled away late with seven runs in the final two innings.
Doane had two hits in the game, a single from Faith Molina and one from Jadyn Hunt. The Tigers lone run came in the fourth inning as Hunt plated Grace Dowding to cut the Wildcat lead to 2-1 at the time.
Sarah Shevenell drew the start and went 3.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits and four walks with five strikeouts. Alexis Hubbard threw 1.0-plus innings, allowing five runs on six hits and a walk while striking out one. Hannah Kline recorded the final six outs (2.0 innings) and allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits and two walks.
The Tigers close out the first day of action as they take on William Penn in the second game of the day.
