Softball Shutout by Kansas Wesleyan
Softball resumed play at the American State Bank Tournament in Sioux Center, Iowa, on Saturday as they took on Kansas Wesleyan. The Coyotes avenged last year's sweep at the hands of the Tigers with a big first inning to post a 14-0 win in five innings.
Kansas Wesleyan struck with eight runs, four earned, in the first inning. The Coyotes had one hit but drew seven walks and the Tigers committed three errors. KWU added five runs in the second and one in the fourth.
Offensively, Jadyn Hunt hit a double for the Tigers while Grace Dowding had a single to account for the Tiger hits in the game.
Sarah Shevenell started for Doane and went 1.0 inning, allowing eight runs (four earned) on one hit and seven walks. Abbi Arroyo threw 3.0 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks.
Next up for the Tigers is a rematch with Culver-Stockton at 4 PM to close out the tournament. The Wildcats won yesterday's first meeting, 9-1.
