Softball opened the GPAC Tournament on Wednesday by taking on No. 12 Midland. The Warriors picked up a 7-2 win, dropping the Tigers into the consolation bracket. In the second game of the day, Jamestown picked up a walkoff single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to top Doane, 3-2, and ending the Tigers' season.
In the first game, Midland picked up a two-run home run in the bottom of the first for the early 2-0 lead. The Warriors added two runs in the fifth inning.
Doane was able to get on the board in the sixth inning as Grace Dowding singled to lead off the inning and scored on a double by Anna Prauner. Midland came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 7-1 lead. The Tigers' final run came in the seventh inning on a home run by Faith Molina.
Isabella Beauchamp was 2-for-3 in the game as the Tigers had six hits as a team.
Molina started in the pitching circle for Doane and allowed seven runs on 10 hits and six walks while striking out four.
Against Jamestown, the Jimmies plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a double and an error.
Doane was able to break through on the scoreboard in the fifth inning as Dowding singled to drive in Beauchamp to cut the deficit in half. The Tigers tied the game in the seventh inning as a throwing error allowed Beauchamp to score.
Jamestown opened the bottom of the seventh with a single. With two outs and the runner at second base, the Jimmies picked up a bloop single to plate the winning run.
Abbi Arroyo started for Doane and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits. Sarah Shevenell threw 5.2 innings, allowing one run on six hits and a walk while striking out five.
Beauchamp was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. The Tigers had seven hits in the game.
Doane finished the year with an 18-24 overall record.
