Softball Leads from Start to Finish Against York

Softball took on York to open the second day of the Dordt Classic in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Tigers struck first and never trailed as they defeated the Panthers, 4-1.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, Katelyn Hays opened the inning with a walk and scored on a double by Milannie Gonzalez. Jasmine Villegas followed with a single to drive in Gonzalez. York scored their run in the second inning with a pair of two-out singles and a stolen base in between.

Doane picked up a pair of runs in the 4th inning to add to their lead. An error and a walk put two runners on base for the Tigers with two outs. Gonzalez followed with a double to drive in both runs for a 4-2 lead.

Abbi Arroyo started for the Tigers and threw 2.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk. Faith Molina threw 5.0 innings in relief to earn the win, allowing two hits and four walks while striking out nine.

Doane posted six hits in the game, two apiece from Gonzalez and Villegas. Gonzalez drove in three runs with four different players accounting for the runs scored.

The Tigers close out the classic later in the day on Saturday against Culver-Stockton at 4 PM.
