Softball Drops Extra Innings Battle with Friends

Softball dropped a tough 3-2 decision in the second game of their day in Wichita, Kansas, to Friends University. The Falcons were able to pick up a walkoff win in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn their second win of the day against the Tigers.

Friends plated two runs in the second inning for the early lead. Doane came back with a run in the fifth inning as Kayla Meyer had a pinch hit RBI-single to plate Faith Molina. Addison Parsons tied the game in the sixth inning with a solo home run crushed to left field.

With the tie-break rule in effect, both teams started the eighth inning with a runner at second base. Doane was unable to score in the top half of the inning. The Falcons used a base hit to right-center field that was out of the reach and off the glove of a diving Milannie Gonzalez.

Faith McDonald started and went 2.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Faith Molina threw the final 5.0 innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits and two walks while striking out five.

Doane picked up six hits in the game from six different players. Collecting hits for the Tigers were Gonzalaz, Parsons, Anna Prauner, Katelyn Hays, Bri True, and Meyer.

The Tigers will close out their tripleheader day by taking on Bethel (Kan.) approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of this game.
