Softball Rallies with 16 Unanswered Runs to Top Waldorf

Softball closed out their doubleheader with Waldorf on Friday with a monumental rally. The Tigers trailed 7-1 through three innings but came back with 16 unanswered runs as they posted a 17-8 victory over the Warriors in six innings. Doane improves to 4-2 in GPAC play with the sweep.

Waldorf scored in the bottom of the first inning on a throwing error. Doane came back with a run in the top of the second inning on an Addison Parsons' single to plate Jasmine Villegas. The Warriors came back with four runs in the bottom of the second inning and two more in the third inning to take a 7-1 lead.

Doane answered back with five runs in the fourth inning to pull within a run, 7-6. Parsons started the scoring with an RBI-single to drive in Villegas. Grace Dowding added a two-run single to drive in Jeryn Allen and Lexi Adams. Milannie Gonzalez followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in Dowding to pull within 7-5. Marisa Marquez drove in Anna Prauner to cut the deficit to one run.

In the sixth inning, Doane posted a season-high 11 runs. Dowding scored to tie the game on a Gonzalez RBI-single. Faith Molina followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in Prauner for the Tigers' first lead of the game. Villegas singled to drive in Gonzalez and Marquez and then scored on a single by Lexi Alaniz-Diaz. A sacrifice fly by Dowding drove in Allen. With two outs, the Tigers recorded three consecutive doubles. Gonzalez drove in Parsons and Alaniz-Diaz, followed by Molina driving in Prauner and Gonzalez. Marquez had the final double to plate Molina for a 17-7 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Waldorf scored on an RBI-single for the final tally of the game.

Hannah Kline started for the Tigers and went 1.2 innings, allowing five runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out two. Bri True threw 0.1 inning, allowing two runs on three walks. Faith McDonald threw the final 4.0 innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out one.

The Tiger offense hit .548 as a team for the game, posting 17 hits. With runners in scoring position, they were 13-of-19 (.684). Six players had multi-hit games and every starter had a hit and run scored, starting at the top of the order with Prauner going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Gonzalez followed with two hits, two runs, and four RBI. Molina had one hit, scored one run, and drove in three. Marquez had two hits, a run scored and two driven in. Villegas was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Allen was 1-for-1 with two runs scored, a walk, and a hit by pitch. Parsons added two hits, a run scored, and two driven in. Alaniz-Diaz had a hit, run scored, and an RBI, while Dowding went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI.

Doane will stay in Sioux Center, Iowa, and take on Dordt on Saturday afternoon.
