Softball Edged Out in Opener at Dordt

Softball was in Sioux Center, Iowa, on Saturday to take on Dordt in a late-afternoon first pitch. The Defenders defeated Doane in the opening game, 3-1.

Dordt scored twice in the first inning on a pair of Tiger errors. Doane cut the deficit in half in the third inning as Milannie Gonzalez drove in Grace Dowding with a ground out. The Defenders were able to get the run back with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning.

Faith McDonald started and went 4.0 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits with one strikeout. Faith Molina threw 2.0 innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out three.

Doane was limited to four hits in the game. McDonald had the team's only extra base hit, a double. Jasmine Villegas, Addison Parsons, and Dowding had singles for the team.

Game two followed approximately 30 minutes after the first game was completed.
