Softball Uses Long Ball to Rally Past CSM

Softball returned to their home diamond on Wednesday evening for a conference doubleheader with Saint Mary (Neb.). The Tigers won the opening game, 6-4, behind a late-inning rally.

The Flames opened the game with a leadoff home run for the first run. Doane came back in the bottom of the first with an RBI-groundout from Anna Prauner to drive in Milannie Gonzalez. Saint Mary regained the lead with a run in the top of the third inning only to have the Tigers answer with two in the bottom of the inning. An error allowed the first run to score for Doane and Anna Prauner singled to drive in Grace Dowding for the second run to take a 3-2 lead.

Saint Mary regained the lead in the sixth inning with two runs. An infield single and a sacrifice fly accounted for the runs. Doane rallied in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead. Bri True hit a two-run home run to regain the lead, 5-4. Jasmine Villegas followed with a solo home run for the final scoring.

Faith Molina started for Doane and went 5.1 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out five. Faith McDonald threw the final 1.2 innings to pick up the win. She allowed two hits and struck out one.

Doane posted 10 hits in the game. Gonzalez and Dowding recorded two hits apiece while Prauner and True finished with two RBI apiece. Six different players scored a run in the game for the Tigers.

Official game time was 1:43 for the first game.
