Softball Rally Comes Up Short Against Bruins
Softball hosted Bellevue on Wednesday in a solo 7-inning contest. The Bruins utilized three two-out hits to account for all their runs in a 5-3 win over the Tigers.
In the first two innings, Bellevue turned two walks into runs with a pair of two-out, two-run home runs, for a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the second inning. Doane picked up their first run in the bottom of the second as Grace Dowding tripled and scored on a two-out single by Lexi Alaniz-Diaz.
The Bruins added a run on a two-out single in the fourth inning to push their lead to 5-1. In the seventh, Doane scored a run on a Marisa Marquez groundout to plate Jeryn Allen. Kayla Meyer added a two-out single to drive in Anna Prauner for the final run.
Faith McDonald started for Doane and allowed four runs on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 2.0 innings pitched. Hannah Kline threw 2.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits with one strikeout. Bri True threw a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and one walk. Faith Molina threw the final 2.0 innings, striking out two batters.
Doane out-hit Bellevue, 8-6, for the game. Dowding was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. Milannie Gonzalez was 2-for-3 as well. Alaniz-Diaz and Allen were both 1-for-1 with Alaniz-Diaz collecting an RBI and Allen scoring a run.
Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Mitchell, S.D., to take on Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday, April 5, weather permitting.
