Softball Splits with DWU Behind Molina's Four-Hit Game

Softball closed out their doubleheader in Mitchell, S.D., on Thursday with a 7-4 victory over Dakota Wesleyan. Doane scored four runs in the final two innings to claim the win.

DWU scored the first run of the game on a single in the first inning. Doane came back with two runs in the top of the second to take the lead. On a flyout, DWU tried to turn a double play but the throw into second base was errant. The error allowed Faith Molina and Lexi Alaniz-Diaz to score. DWU tied the game in the bottom of the second on a Doane error.

Doane regained the lead in the fourth inning on an RBI-single by Faith Molina to drive in Marisa Marquez. In the sixth inning, Alaniz-Diaz doubled to plate Molina and Kayla Meyer singled to drive in Alaniz-Diaz for a 5-2 lead. In the seventh inning, Jasmine Villegas singled to drive in Grace Dowding. She came in to score on a single by Molina. Dakota Wesleyan scored twice in the bottom of the seventh for the final runs.

Hannah Kline started for the Tigers and threw 2.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk with one strikeout. Bri True picked up the win as she threw 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing three hits with two strikeouts. Molina threw the final inning, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Doane had 10 hits in the game including a 4-for-4 game from Molina. She scored two runs and drove in two. Villegas was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Alaniz-Diaz scored twice for the Tigers as well.

Next up will be a road trip to Yankton, S.D., on Wednesday, April 23, when the Tigers take on Mount Marty. First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.
