Softball Takes Game One from Mount Marty

Softball traveled to Yankton, S.D., on Wednesday evening to take on Mount Marty in a doubleheader. The Tigers pulled away from the Lancers late in the game and posted a 7-2 victory.

In the third inning, Grace Dowding plated the first run of the game with an RBI-single to drive in Jeryn Allen. A sacrifice fly by Marisa Marquez drove in Dowding for a 2-0 lead. Mount Marty tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a two-run double.

Doane regained the lead in the sixth inning as Bri True led off the inning with a home run. The Tigers extended their lead on RBI-singles by Addison Parsons and Dowding. Dowding would come around to score on an error to put the Tigers up 6-2. In the seventh inning, Lexi Adams scored on an error for the final run.

Faith McDonald started for the Tigers and threw 2.0 innings, allowing two walks. Faith Molina threw the final 5.0 innings to pick up the win. She allowed two runs on five hits and five walks while striking out four.

Dowding went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Jasmine Villegas went 2-for-4 with Marquez going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Allen scored two runs for the Tigers. Doane finished with 11 hits in the game.
