Softball Drops Opening Game at Hastings

Softball traveled to Hastings on Saturday afternoon to take on the Broncos in a pair of games that would determine postseason fates. The Broncos kept their season alive by taking the opening game, 3-1.

Doane pushed the first run across the plate in the second inning on a little league home run for Milannie Gonzalez. She reached on a dropped popup by the third baseman. The ball rolled into foul territory, allowing Gonzalez to go to second. The catcher picked up the ball and threw to second base but the throw was off target and went to the center field wall, allowing Gonzalez to score on the play.

Hastings came back in the fourth inning to score their three runs. The Broncos tied the game on a double and took the lead on a single. A bases loaded walk allowed the third run to score. All runs scored with two outs in the inning.

Faith McDonald started for Doane and went 2.0 innings, allowing one hit and one walk. Faith Molina threw 4.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out two.

The Tigers were held to one hit in the game, a single by Gonzalez as she was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
