Tigers Drop Slugfest in Softball Action

CRETE, Neb. – Doane fell in game two of its GPAC doubleheader to Hastings on Tuesday evening, dropping a 16-9 decision at the Doane Ballfield Complex.

Despite multiple offensive surges, the Tigers were unable to overcome an early deficit and a big sixth inning from the Broncos.

Hastings struck first in the top of the first inning, using a two-out, three-run home run from Kaylee Pinneo to take an early 3-0 lead. Doane answered in the bottom half, as Addison Parsons launched a two-run home run to left field, trimming the deficit to 3-2.

The Broncos added three more runs in the second inning, highlighted by a solo home run from Katyn Kappler and RBI hits from Pinneo and Ana Medeiros to extend the lead to 6-2. Doane again responded in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs, getting an RBI single from Jaiden Papik and a run-scoring double from Hannah Pack to make it 6-4.

Hastings continued to build its lead with two runs in the third inning, taking advantage of a Doane error and an RBI double by Lauren Lee to push the score to 8-4. The Broncos tacked on single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to stretch the advantage to 10-4.

Hastings broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning with a decisive five-run frame. The Broncos strung together timely hits, including a two-RBI single from Sofia Carroll, a two-RBI double from Lexie Mudloff, and an RBI single from Lauren Lee to extend the lead to 15-4.

Doane responded in the bottom of the sixth inning with its biggest offensive surge of the game. The Tigers plated five runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI double from Evelyn Iniguez, an RBI double from Lilly Lewis, and a two-run triple from Jacqueline Ordonez. The rally cut the deficit to 15-9, but Doane was unable to draw any closer.

Hastings added one more run in the seventh inning to close out the scoring as the Broncos scored in every inning.

Doane finished with 13 hits on the day. Evelyn Iniguez led the Tigers with three hits and an RBI, while Jacqueline Ordonez recorded two hits, including a triple and two RBI. Addison Parsons added a home run and two RBI, and Jaiden Papik contributed two hits and scored twice.

In the circle, Natalie Ascencio took the loss after allowing five runs in the first inning. Faith McDonald, Lauren Dick, and Trinity Robinson each saw time in relief.

Hastings totaled 18 hits in the contest, with Sofia Carroll leading the way with three hits and four runs scored, while Kaylee Pinneo drove in five runs.
