Seven-Run Inning Downs Softball in Game Two

CRETE, Neb. - Dakota Wesleyan used a seven-run second inning and strong work in the circle to hand Doane an 8-0 setback in five innings in game two of Saturday's GPAC doubleheader at the Doane Ballfield Complex.

After a scoreless first inning on both sides, the Tigers threatened in the bottom of the first when Jeryn Allen singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jacqueline Ordonez, but Dakota Wesleyan pitcher Mandalyn Nachtigall worked out of the jam to keep the game scoreless.

The visitors broke things open in the top of the second. Jordyn Blogg delivered the biggest swing of the inning with a grand slam to center, and Liliana Arreola followed later in the frame with a three-run home run to left center as Dakota Wesleyan built a 7-0 lead.

Doane continued to battle and put runners on base in several innings. Katelyn Hays singled in the second and again in the fifth, while Faith McDonald added a pair of hits. The Tigers also loaded the bases with two outs in the second, but Nachtigall recorded a strikeout to end the threat.

Trinity Robinson came on in relief and settled things down for Doane, tossing three innings while allowing just one run. Dakota Wesleyan added its final run in the fifth on a fielder's choice after Macy Moore opened the inning with a double.

Doane finished with five hits in the contest, getting one each from Allen, Hays, Kayla Meyer and two from McDonald. Dakota Wesleyan was limited to four hits, but made them count with two home runs and eight RBI.

Nachtigall earned the complete-game shutout for Dakota Wesleyan, striking out two and walking two over five innings. McDonald took the loss for Doane after working the first two innings, while Robinson allowed one run in three innings of relief.
