Shooting Sports Places Fourth at Nationals

The ACUI National Championships were held in San Antonio, Texas, with the Tiger Shooting Sports squad competing March 20-23. The Tigers placed fourth overall with a team score of 2,749 over six categories. Doane brought home three individual event national championships and one team event national title.

Payton Detavernier placed 10th in the women's overall with a score of 545 while winning two titles. She recorded a 99 in trap and won a shoot-off, 75-73, to claim the title. Detavernier added a championship in doubles trap with a 95. Jessica Himmelberg placed 81st in the women's division with a 483, tying for 16th in the trap discipline.

On the men's side, Cody Eye placed 87th with a score of 553. He won the doubles trap title with a 97, taking the win in a shoot-off, 19-18. Skylar Clark placed 106th with a total of 550. He tied for fourth in trap with a 99. Seth Swinea posted a 540 to place 161st. He tied for fourth in doubles trap with a 96.

Beau Gyhra placed 185th with a 536. Sam Arnett finished with a 530 to place 223rd while earning a runner-up finish to Eye in doubles trap. Jaron Brown posted a 502 to place 368th overall.

The Tigers won the team title in doubles trap with a 480. The top five scorers for Doane were Eye, Arnett, Swinea, Clark, and Detavernier.

In other events, the team's total scores were 467 in skeet, 484 in trap, 449 in doubles skeet, 400 in sporting clays, and 469 in super sporting.
