Bio

Rick Marshall was named the first head coach of the Tigers' varsity shotgun sports program in October 2015.

In the first year of the program (2016-17), Doane brought home the ACUI Division IV National Championship from San Antonio, Texas. The team won the 5-stand discipline and was top three in all six categories they competed in.

In 2022, it was a championship to remember for the Tigers as the brought home five event national titles (three individual and two team). Payton DeTavernier won the Women's Doubles American Trap Category 2 title with a score of 99 and she claimed the Combined American Trap title with a 196. Jack Olsen won the American Trap Category 4 title with a 99. The team of Olsen, Sam Arnett, Seth Swinea, Stephen MacNeal, and Trevin Alberts won the American Trap division with a score of 491. The team of DeTavernier, Skylar Clark, Alex Wagner, Swinea, and Arnett finished with a score of 475 in Doubles American Trap to pick up the victory.

Marshall has been shooting competitively for a number of years and has instructed shooters for more than 25 years in all aspects of trap, skeet and shooting clays. He is a 32-time Amateur Trapshooting Association All-American team member, an inductee in the Trapshooting Hall of Fame and four-time Grand American World Champion. In addition, he is one of only three competitive shooters to ever break a 400x400 since 1880. In 2022, he broke 2,567 out of 2,600 targets thrown at the 2022 Grand American Trapshooting Championship to win the prestigious ATA 2600 HOA Championship. Named the 2022 ATA All-American Team Captain, he took home 21 Grand American Trophies including 9-Event wins.
