Women's Basketball Pulls Away for Home Conference Win

Women's Basketball hosted Mount Marty in conference play on Wednesday evening in Crete. The Lancers were upset-minded, leading the Tigers after the first quarter but Doane was able to turn up the defensive pressure and rolled to a 91-62 victory. The win moved the Tigers to 5-1 on the season.

Doane led by five points, 8-3, in the opening 2:38 of play. The Lancers closed the first quarter on a 13-7 run to take a 16-15 lead after 10 minutes of action. Macy Holtz converted a pair of old-fashioned 3-point plays early in the second quarter to spark an 8-0 run as the Tigers started to pull away. Doane closed out the final five minutes of the first half with a 16-4 run to lead by 17 points, 45-28.

In the third quarter, Maddie Portwine scored the first six points with a pair of 3-point baskets. Mak Hatcliff closed the quarter with the final 10 points as the Tigers out-scored the Lancers, 22-10, in the 10 minute span. The fourth quarter was the highest scoring as both teams combined for 48 points, each scoring 24. The largest lead of the game for Doane was 36 points, 77-41.

Holtz led the Tigers with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Hatcliff posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. She added seven steals to her linescore. Portwine posted 13 points and Megan Chambers added 11 points. Libby Trausch led the team with four assists while four players had three assists apiece.

Doane shot 43-percent (31-of-72) from the floor, making 11 3-point baskets. The Tigers made 18-of-26 at the free throw line. The Lancers shot 46-percent (24-of-52) from the floor, making five 3-point baskets. They were 9-of-18 at the free throw line.

Mount Marty was led by Alexus Motley with 18 points off the bench. Sidney Thue posted 13 points. Emma Jarovski pulled down nine rebounds.

Next up for the Tigers will be a home match with Waldorf on Saturday, December 7, at 2 PM.
