High Scoring Contest Goes in Favor of Tiger Women's Basketball
Women's Basketball picked up a road win on Wednesday evening in Fremont as they defeated Midland, 94-78. With the win, the Tigers improved to 7-1 on the season.
Doane jumped out to a 12-5 lead through the first 4:07 of play. Following a Warrior timeout, Midland went on an 8-0 run behind a couple of 3-point baskets to take the lead, 13-12. Doane responded with an 8-0 run of their own to regain the lead. Doane used the run to set up a 16-4 run to close the quarter as the Tigers led 28-17 at the quarter break.
Midland would trim the lead to two points with six minutes to play in the second quarter. Doane extended the lead back to seven points only to have the Warriors go on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 37-all with 1:51 to play before the half. Mak Hatcliff put Doane back in front with five points in 31 seconds of play and the Tigers led 42-37 at halftime.
The Tigers started strong in the third quarter with an 18-3 run to go up by 20 points, 60-40. Doane was able to push the lead up to 21 points but Midland used a 9-1 run to cut the advantage to 13 points, 73-60. Hatcliff scored on a layup just before the buzzer as Doane led by 15 points entering the final 10 minutes of action.
In the fourth quarter, Doane was able to push the lead back to 21 points on three occasions. Libby Trausch and Macy Holtz had seven points apiece in the final 10 minutes.
For the game, Hatcliff led all scorers with 34 points as she hit five 3-point baskets. Holtz finished with 28 points, hitting three 3-point baskets. Trausch posted 11 points off the bench. Kaylee Klover led the Tigers with eight rebounds while Holtz and Hatcliff had seven apiece. Maddie Portwine joined Holtz with five assists apiece. Megan Chambers was joined by Hatcliff and Klover with two steals apiece.
Midland received 18 points from Jenna Weber as five Warriors finished in double figures. Sarah Shepard recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Doane will travel to Orange City, Iowa, on Saturday, December 14, to take on (RV) Northwestern at 2 PM.
