Women's Basketball Uses Balanced Attack in Road Win

Women's Basketball took on Waldorf on Saturday afternoon in Forest City, Iowa. The first half started out similar to their first meeting in December where both teams started slow offensively. However, both teams began to find their offense midway through the second quarter but it was Doane who would pull away with a 78-56 road win.

Doane scored the first five points of the game and would never trail in the game. The Tigers led 13-9 after 10 minutes of action but Waldorf started the second quarter strong and would tie the game at 16-all. The threat would be enough to spark the Doane offense as they went on an 8-0 run and never looked back. Doane led 30-22 at halftime.

The Tigers went on a 17-6 run in the first four minutes of the third quarter and would lead 54-34 heading into the final quarter. Waldorf would pull within 15 points only to have Doane push their lead back to 23 points before settling with a 22-point win.

Macy Holtz led Doane with 18 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Mak Hatcliff and Megan Chambers added 14 points apiece with Maddie Portwine finishing with 11 points. Kaylee Klover posted eight assists to lead Doane and matched Holtz for team-high honors with three steals.

Doane shot 41-percent (27-of-66) for the game, hitting 33-percent (8-of-24) from behind the arc. They were 59-percent (16-of-27) at the free throw line. Waldorf shot 32-percent (17-of-54) for the game and 32-percent (8-of-25) behind the arc. The Warriors were 74-percent (14-of-19) at the charity stripe.

Brooke Dial led the Warriors with 22 points while Alyah Abrahamson had a team-high five assists.

The Tigers will travel west on Wednesday, January 15, to take on Hastings at 6 PM.
