Women's Basketball Downed by No. 25 Broncos
Women's Basketball traveled to Hastings on Wednesday evening to take on the 25th-ranked Broncos. Hastings utilized a big second quarter on their way to a 96-69 win over the Tigers.
Doane scored the first basket of the game only to have Hastings answer with a 7-0 run. The Tigers bounced back with five straight points to tie the game. However, the Broncos countered with a 10-2 run and they would lead 21-14 after 10 minutes of action. In the second quarter, an 11-0 run capped a 21-6 run in the first eight minutes of the quarter. Hastings led 48-28 at the break.
The Tigers used a 12-4 run midway through the third quarter and would cut the Bronco lead down to 14 points, 63-49. Hastings pushed the lead back to 19 points before Doane cut it down to 16, 70-54, heading into the final quarter. Doane was within 14 points with 5:49 to play, however, a 13-0 run over a two minute stretch by the Broncos sealed the win.
Mak Hatcliff led the Tigers with 24 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and six steals. Libby Trausch added 13 points with Macy Holtz and Maddie Portwine finishing with 11 points apiece.
Doane shot 36-percent (22-of-61) for the game, 30-percent (8-of-27) behind the arc, and 81-percent (17-of-21) at the free throw line. Hastings shot 51-percent (35-of-69) from the floor, 31-percent (8-of-26) behind the arc, and 69-percent (18-of-26) at the free throw line. Doane committed 32 turnovers which led to 48 Hastings' points.
The Broncos were led by McKenna Yates with 22 points. Macy Bryant added 11 points and Jentri Marx added 10 points.
Doane will be back at home to take on No. 5 Briar Cliff on Saturday, January 18, at 2 PM.
