No. 10 DWU Pulls Away from Women's Basketball

MITCHELL, S.D. — No. 10 Dakota Wesleyan used a dominant third quarter to pull away and defeat Doane 72-45 on Wednesday night at the Corn Palace in GPAC women's basketball action.

The Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan outscored Doane 27-9 in the third period to stretch a six-point halftime lead into a decisive margin. The game was tied 15-15 after the first quarter before DWU took a 32-26 advantage into the break.

Emma Yost led Dakota Wesleyan with 20 points, pacing a balanced offense that saw three players score in double figures. Avery Broughton added 17 points and Rylee Rosenquist finished with 11. DWU steadily built its cushion with efficient scoring inside and timely perimeter shooting while limiting Doane to single-digit scoring in two quarters.

Keeleigh Knobbe scored 12 points to lead Doane, and Megan Chambers added 10. Doane managed just nine points in the third quarter and 10 in the fourth as Dakota Wesleyan closed out the win with steady half-court execution and defensive pressure.

Dakota Wesleyan maintained control on the boards and capitalized on scoring runs out of halftime, turning a two-possession game into a comfortable lead entering the fourth. Doane briefly trimmed the deficit early in the second half before DWU responded with a sustained surge that put the game out of reach.

Doane will return to action on Saturday, January 10, at home against Waldorf. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
