Doane Women's Soccer scored in the opening half for the third straight game but was unable to hold the lead as they finished in a 1-1 tie at McPherson on Wednesday evening. The tie moved the Tigers to a 2-0-1 mark, the second-best start after three games in the 27 seasons of the program.
Following a throw-in, Quinn Whitcomb (SR/Bellevue, Neb.) sent a pass to Denise Gomez (JR/Porter, Texas) in the middle of the field. Gomez cut back against the guarding Bulldog player and fired a shot from about 40-yards out and found the back of the goal for a 1-0 lead in the 33' of play. She is the fourth different player to score for the Tigers this season.
Doane held an 8-4 shot advantage in the 1st half but the Bulldogs came out aggressive in the 2nd half. In the 71', McPherson's Caitlin Buendia cut through the middle of the Tiger defense and was able to fire a shot into the goal and bring the game to a 1-1 tie. Shots in the second half were 5-5.
Doane split time in goal for the third straight game. Grayce Southern (FR/Tulsa, Okla.) and Hannah Drolshagen (SR/Englewood, Colo.) have combined to allow just one goal through 270 minutes of play (0.33 gaa).
The Tigers travel to Washington-state for their next two games. Doane will face College of Idaho on September 3 to start the action.
