Women's Soccer Rolls Past Prairie Wolves

If the Doane Women's Soccer was suffering from any side effects of flying back to Nebraska on Tuesday afternoon, it did not show in Wednesday evening's match up with Nebraska Wesleyan. The Tigers scored twice in the first half and ran away with a 5-0 victory over the Prairie Wolves. The victory matched Doane's largest winning margin over NWU and marked the third time that the Tigers had scored five goals against the Prairie Wolves.

Lexi Torok (JR/Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) started the scoring for Doane in the 28' as she took a pass from Desiree Lopez (SO/San Elizario, Texas) and fired a shot past the NWU goalkeeper. In the 37', Torok struck again as Karime Maldonado (FR/Hutto, Texas) played a ball through the box and Torok tapped it into an empty net for a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Doane scored in the 63' as Michaela Thompson (SR/Spokane, Wash.) scored on a penalty kick. Celeste Galvan (FR/Escondido, Calif.) was able to get on the scoreboard as she took a pass, cut back and fired a shot that hit the crossbar, dropped down and off the NWU keeper for the fourth goal of the game. Doane's final goal came in the 89' as Torok finished off the hat-trick by scoring on a penalty kick. Her three goals were the most by a Tiger player since Kylee Horton had three in 2015.

Doane out-shot NWU, 36-4, for the game, including 21-2 in shots on-goal.

The Tigers turn their focus to conference play next as they host Mount Marty on Wednesday, September 14, at 5 PM in Crete.
