Women's Soccer Rallies Twice to Stun Dordt

Doane Women's Soccer closed out their home schedule on Saturday evening with a big win over Dordt, 6-4. The victory improved the Tigers to 4-5-1 in GPAC play, bumping their conference standing to 8th place with two games remaining. The win over the Defenders was the first since 2014 for Doane. Dordt was sitting 4th in the GPAC entering the day but dropped to 5th following the game.

Dordt struck with two goals to open the game, both from Karinna Tel. She scored in the 4' and 24' for her 14th and 15th goals of the season. Doane came firing back late in the half, first by cutting into the lead off a corner kick by Denise Gomez (JR/Porter, Texas). She found Jenna Tardiff (SR/Antelope, Calif.) in the 34' and Tardiff headed the ball in for her second goal of the season.

In the 37', Makenna Rathbun collected the ball outside the goal box, spun and fired a shot in to tie the game at 2-2. Lexi Torok (JR/Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) put Doane in front in the 41' as she broke past the defense and dropped a shot to the back post to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead heading into the break.

The second half started like the first with Dordt scoring twice. In the 49', Avril Baccam scored her 18th goal of the season and in the 50', Tel scored for the third time in the game to put the Defenders up 4-3.

Doane found their spark once again as a foul in the goal box led to a penalty kick. Rathbun fired the ball in for her second goal and fifth of the season in the 74' to tie the game at 4-all. In the 79', Torok connected with Michaela Thompson (SR/Spokane, Wash.) for her sixth goal of the season to put the Tigers up 5-4. For Thompson, the goal would prove to be her second game-winning goal of the year and sixth of her career. For a little insurance, Thompson returned the favor and connected with Torok who scored her second goal of the game and sixth of the season in the 84' of play.

Doane held a 13-10 shots on-goal advantage. Grayce Southern (FR/Tulsa, Okla.) finished with six saves for the Tigers while Jenna Wright had six saves for the Defenders.

The Tigers will close out the regular season with a pair of road games, first traveling to Seward to take on Concordia on Wednesday, October 26. The Bulldogs are one point ahead of the Tigers in the GPAC standings.
