Second Half Surge Lifts Women's Soccer to Victory

CRETE, Neb. - Doane women's soccer capitalized on a strong second half to earn a 2–0 victory over the College of Saint Mary Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium/Papik Field, marking the Tigers' sixth Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) win of the season.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Doane broke through in the 72nd minute when McKenna Rathbun headed home a corner from Celeste Galvan for her sixth goal of the year. The Tigers kept the pressure on late, sealing the match in the 89th minute when Lexi Adams scored her first collegiate goal to double the lead and secure the result.

Virginia Johnson was steady in net, recording six saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season. The Doane defense limited the Flames to nine total shots and just six on goal while the Tigers produced 11 shots and eight on frame.

Galvan led Doane offensively with three shots and an assist, while Rathbun and Adams converted the Tigers' best chances to keep the team's bid to host a GPAC playoff game in reach.

With the win, Doane improves to 8–6–2 overall and 6–2–1 in GPAC play, continuing their climb in the conference standings heading into the final week of the regular season. The Tigers will close the home schedule this weekend before wrapping up GPAC play on the road.
