Women's Tennis Defeats Ranked Foes in Team Loss to Southwestern

Doane Women's Tennis traveled to Fremont on Saturday to meet up with Southwestern (Kan.) at the YMCA. The Moundbuilders were able to pick up a 6-1 win over the Tigers.

In doubles play, Doane won the match at No. 1 as Ava Macke and Liz van der Torre won 6-3. Their opponents, Catherine Coe and Mariane Ochoa are ranked No. 6 in the ITA/NAIA Central Region doubles rankings. Southwestern won the matches at No. 2 and No. 3 to earn the team point.

Macke was the lone winner in singles play as she defeated Coe, ranked No. 10 in the ITA/NAIA Central Region singles rankings. The final scores were 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7). van der Torre also put up a valiant effort at No. 2 singles where she was edged out by No. 14 Jasmin Hauska, 7-5, 6-4.

Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Red Oak, Iowa, to take on Grand View at the Family YMCA. First serve is set for 3 PM.
