Women's Tennis Tops Northwestern in GPAC Play
Doane Women's Tennis played their first home conference match on Friday afternoon as high winds and cool temperatures forced the match indoors. The Tigers took on Northwestern in Fuhrer Field House and posted a 6-1 win to improve to 2-0 in GPAC play and push their win-streak to four.
The match opened with the Tigers sweeping doubles play. Ava Macke and Liz van der Torre won 6-4 at 1-doubles. Ashlyn Kucera and Nina Ngo teamed up for a 6-3 win at 2-doubles. Kailyn Groski and Grace Schroller won 6-2 at 3-doubles.
With three courts, the first individuals to take the court were in the top three spots of the order. Macke pulled off a tight match, 7-5, 6-4, at 1-singles. In the 2-singles match, van der Torre won 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. Kucera claimed a 6-3, 6-0, win at 3-singles. The wins claimed the team victory as the final three matches took the courts. Groski won 6-1, 7-5, at 5-singles and Schroller won 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) at 6-singles.
Doane will return to action on Sunday, April 2, with a trip to Omaha to take on Creighton University.
