Women's Tennis Rolls Past Broncos
Doane Women's Tennis hosted Hastings on Thursday afternoon in Crete. The Tigers dropped a couple of games early to start doubles play but responded quickly by pouncing on the Broncos for a 6-1 win after sweeping doubles play. The Tigers improved to 9-11 overall and 5-0 in the GPAC.
In doubles play, the Tigers won 6-2 at 1-doubles with Ava Macke and Liz van der Torre. They also claimed a 6-2 win at 2-doubles behind Ashlyn Kucera and Nina Ngo. The 3-doubles match was a tight battle that the Tigers took, 6-4, with Kailyn Groski and Grace Schroller.
Singles action played out similarly to doubles with the closest matches coming at the bottom of the order. Macke won 6-2, 6-4, at 1-singles and van der Torre was a 6-2, 6-0, winner at 2-singles. Kucera won 6-2, 6-3, at 3-singles with Ngo picking up a 6-2, 6-0, victory at 4-singles. In the match at 5-singles, Groski won in a tie-break, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6). Schroller dropped her match at 6-singles in a tie-break, 6-4, 4-6, 0-1 (9-11).
Doane will remain at their home court as they host Morningside on Sunday, April 16, at noon. This is a rescheduled date with the match moved back one day due to expected poor tennis weather in the forecast.
