Purizaca Named Women's Tennis Player of the Week

(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following tennis player-of-the-week for March 10-16, 2025.  Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2024-2025 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program. 

Women's Tennis – Maria Purizaca, Doane University
Maria Purizaca of Doane University is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Purizaca, sophomore from Lima, Peru, went 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles on the week. Purizaca started the week with a win over ITA No. 30 Sofia Canto (Bethel, Tenn.) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. She followed with two wins over Karolina Mrowiecova (Mobile). Canto and Mrowiecova were both NAIA Second Team All-Americans in 2024. In doubles play, she teamed with Mariana Espinosa to win their three doubles matches. Purizaca is unranked in the ITA singles rankings and is ranked 50th with Espinosa in doubles.
