MOBILE, Ala. — The Doane University women's tennis team picked up a pair of singles victories but ultimately fell 5-2 to No. 15 Louisiana Christian on Wednesday morning at the Mobile Tennis Center.

The Tigers faced a tough start as the Wildcats secured the doubles point. Louisiana Christian claimed all three doubles matches, including wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles by scores of 6-0 and 6-1. The No. 1 doubles match went unfinished.

Despite the early deficit, Doane responded with strong play at the top of the singles lineup.

At No. 1 singles, Maria Purizaca delivered a convincing performance, defeating Raquel Coelho Rodrigues 6-0, 7-5. Purizaca controlled the opening set and then held off a late push in the second to secure the Tigers' first point of the match.

The Tigers added another victory at No. 2 singles as Liz Calderon battled past Elizaveta Mikhailova in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Calderon edged a tightly contested first set and carried the momentum into the second to earn Doane's second point.

Louisiana Christian secured the team victory by winning the remaining four singles matches. Valeria Callejo defeated Kat Johnson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while Ana Sofia Ferrer Martinez topped Grace Schroller 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. Akari Uchiyama claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win over Isabella Castillero at No. 5 singles, and Farren Allysia Sandy finished the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Alejandra Prat at No. 6.
