Women's Tennis Caps Spring Break Trip

MOBILE, Ala. — The Doane women's tennis team closed out its Spring Break trip on Wednesday afternoon with a challenging matchup against nationally ranked No. 25 Texas A&M–Texarkana, falling 6–1.

The Eagles secured the doubles point by sweeping all three matches to take an early 1–0 lead. The top pairing of Maria Purizaca and Liz Calderon battled at No. 1 doubles but fell 6–1 to Ana Gonzalez and Zahra Dreyer-Ferreira. At No. 2 doubles, Grace Schroller and Kat Johnson dropped a 6–1 decision to Kristin Major and Lucia Siddens, while Isabella Castillero and Alejandra Prat were defeated 6–1 at No. 3.

Doane's highlight of the day came in singles play from Purizaca at the No. 1 position. The junior turned in a strong performance, defeating Gonzalez in straight sets, 6–1, 6–4, to account for the Tigers' lone point of the match.

Texas A&M–Texarkana responded by sweeping the remaining five singles contests. Dreyer-Ferreira defeated Calderon 6–2, 6–0 at No. 2 singles, while Siddens topped Schroller 6–1, 6–1 at No. 3. The Eagles also picked up wins from Emmanouela Besi at No. 4, Andrea Castillo at No. 5, and Adrianne Guangko at No. 6 to seal the team victory.

Wednesday's contest wrapped up a busy Spring Break stretch for the Tigers, who played multiple matches in the Mobile, Alabama area against strong NAIA competition.
