Women's Tennis Edge in Road GPAC Match

FREMONT, Neb. — The Doane women's tennis team battled throughout the lineup on Tuesday afternoon but came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Midland in GPAC play.

The match opened with tightly contested doubles action, where Doane secured the No. 1 doubles point behind the duo of Maria Purizaca and Liz Calderon. The pair delivered a strong 6-4 win to give the Tigers momentum. However, Midland answered by taking the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches, earning the team point and a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

Doane responded with a strong showing at the top of the singles lineup. Purizaca led the way at No. 1 singles with a 7-5, 6-1 victory, while Calderon followed with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 to put the Tigers in front.

Alejandra Prat added Doane's third point with a solid 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles, giving the Tigers a 3-1 advantage and putting them within one point of the team victory.

Midland, however, mounted a comeback by sweeping the middle of the lineup. The Warriors picked up straight-set wins at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 singles to clinch the match, overcoming Doane's early lead.

Despite the loss, the Tigers showed resilience with strong performances at the top and bottom of the lineup, highlighted by straight-set victories from Purizaca, Calderon, and Prat.
