Purizaca Caps Undefeated GPAC Singles Slate

CRETE, Neb. — The Doane women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Concordia (Neb.) on Tuesday evening in GPAC action at home.

Doane opened the match by claiming the doubles point at the top spot, as Maria Purizaca and Liz Calderon delivered a strong performance at No. 1 doubles. The duo secured a 7-3 victory in the tiebreak to win 7-6 and give the Tigers early momentum. However, Concordia responded by taking the remaining two doubles matches to earn the team point.

In singles play, Purizaca continued her standout effort for the Tigers, earning Doane's lone team point with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. She finished the season undefeated in GPAC play. The Bulldogs controlled the rest of the lineup, winning five straight singles matches to secure the overall victory.

At No. 2 singles, Calderon fell 6-1, 6-1, while Kat Johnson battled at No. 3 singles but came up short in straight sets after a tightly contested opening set. Grace Schroller (No. 4) and Isabella Castillero (No. 5) were also defeated in two sets, while Alejandra Prat pushed her match to three sets at No. 6 before Concordia closed it out.
