Hekl Breaks 60M School Record in Seward
Women's Track and Field saw a number of improved marks as they competed in their final meet before the GPAC Championships next week. This week, Doane embarked on a trip to Seward to compete in the Concordia Invite.
One of the top highlights of the day came in the 60m dash where Neryah Hekl broke a 14-year old school record. She won the race with a time of 7.68, topping the previous record of 7.70 held by Deejay Silcott in 2010, and met the NAIA provisional qualifying standard. Hekl placed fourth in the 200m with a time of 26.38.
Rylee Rice took second place in the 600m as she ran a time of 1:43.56. Danie Parriott finished in third with a time of 2:21.18 in the 800m.
In the 1000m run, Grace Colbert placed seventh with a time of 3:17.27. Jenny Cardoso Franco finished 17th in the mile run with a time of 6:00.33. The women's 4x400m relay team placed first with a time of 4:03.93. Running for the Tigers were Katie Vogt, Chaney Nelson, Kiley Hejtmanek, and Lindsay Adams.
Kaylee Pribyl won the pole vault with a height of 3.82m (12-06.25), second-best in program history. Kennedy Stanley posted the fifth-best mark in program history as she cleared 3.67m (12-00.50). Jastiny Jackson and Sarah Theiler posted a height of 1.55m (5-01.00) in the high jump, finishing second and fourth, respectively.
In the long jump, Morgan Craig placed 10th with a mark of 5.01m (16-05.25). Josie Garrett won the triple jump with a mark of 11.62m (38-01.50), meeting the NAIA "A" standard. Adams was third with a leap of 11.28m (37-00.25), meeting the "B" standard.
Macy Fuller and Mia Knigge met the NAIA "A" standard in the weight throw. Fuller posted a throw of 17.70m (58-01.00) to finish second while Knigge was fifth with a throw of 16.79m (55-01.00). In the shot put, Alivia Baucom placed sixth with a throw of 12.72m (41-08.75).
The GPAC Championships are next for the Tigers on February 16-17 in Yankton, S.D.
