Women's Track and Field Takes Second at GPAC

Women's Track and Field took part in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday in Yankton, S.D. The Tigers posted 136.25 points to place second overall. It was the highest point total for Doane since 2018 as several athletes stepped up on the weekend. Athletes placing in the Top 8 of an individual event or Top 3 of a relay receive All-GPAC honors.

Leading the way for Doane was Josie Garrett as she placed in four events and recorded 25.75 points in the meet. Her efforts awarded her the GPAC Women's Outstanding Athlete of the Meet.

Garrett won the triple jump as four Tigers placed in the event. She posted a mark of 11.40m (37-05.00). Rosalyn Roggasch finished second with a mark of 11.07m (36-04.00) and Lindsay Adams was third with a mark of 11.02m (36-02.00). Kyla Davis placed fifth with a jump of 10.70m (35-01.25).

In the long jump, Adams came away with the title as she finished with a top distance of 5.48m (17-11.75). Garrett placed fourth with a leap of 5.30m (17-04.75). Garrett led the Tigers in the high jump with a mark of 1.55m (5-01.00).

In the pole vault, Kaylee Pribyl posted a victory for Doane as she cleared 3.77m (12-04.50). Kennedy Stanley took second with a mark of 3.67m (12-00.50) and Samantha Knapp finished seventh with a mark of 3.32m (10-10.75).

In the throws, Macy Fuller posted a second place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 17.63m (57-10.25). Mia Knigge took sixth with a mark of 15.82m (51-11.00). Alivia Baucom led Doane in the shot put with a sixth place finish and toss of 13.47m (44-02.50).

On the track, Garrett placed fourth in the 60m hurdles for Doane as she ran a time of 8.87.

Neryah Hekl broke her school record in the 60m dash as she raced to a time of 7.62. Isabel Bothwell placed seventh with a time of 7.94 and Morgan Mahoney finished eighth as she crossed in 8.01.

Katie Vogt took second in the 200m with a time of 25.84. Mahoney was eighth with a time of 26.47. Vogt also placed in the 400m, taking fifth place in a time of 59.55.

Rylee Rice placed sixth in the 600m as she crossed the finish line in 1:44.14. Chaney Nelson placed eighth with a time of 1:46.29. Danie Parriott took fifth in the 1000m for Doane, crossing in 3:10.06. Calla Wittland took fifth in the 5000m with a time of 19:13.35.

The 4x800m relay team of Parriott, Nelson, Laura Hasemann, and Emily Lytle placed second with a time of 9:53.16. The 4x400m relay team earned points for the team standings with a sixth place finish. Running a time of 4:07.74 were Vogt, Nelson, Kiley Hejtmanek, and Adams.

Next up for the Tigers will be the NAIA Championships on February 29-March 2 in Brookings, S.D.
