Sutton Wins Discus as Women Place Fifth at Nationals

Women's Track and Field posted a fifth place finish at the NAIA Championships this week in Marion, Indiana. The Tigers finished with 33 points. British Columbia was the team champion with 105 points.

Madison Sutton had a special three days in her final meet for the Tigers. She started action on Wednesday with Doane's first All-American performance. Competing in the hammer throw, Sutton brought home a second place finish after launching a school record throw of 57.71m (189-04). On Thursday, Sutton added to her medal collection with her first career All-American performance in the outdoor shot put. She finished fifth with a throw of 14.43m (47-04.00).

Friday saw Sutton return to the top of the podium for the second time this academic year. After winning the weight throw during the indoor season, she claimed her first outdoor title of the year in the discus. Sutton posted a throw of 49.82m (163-05) to win her second discus national title, also winning the 2022 championship event.

Katie Vogt also earned three All-American medals for the Tigers. Vogt qualified for the finals in the 400m dash on Thursday by posting the quickest time, 54.92. On Friday in her second event of the day, she ran a time of 55.17 and placed sixth overall.

Vogt's action on the final day started as she teamed up with RaeAnn Thompson, Morgan Mahoney, and Neryah Hekl in the 4x100m relay. The squad posted a time of 46.45 to place fourth overall.

Hekl posted All-American honors in the 100m dash. She ran a time of 11.87 and placed seventh to earn honors for the second straight year.

The 4x400m relay team closed out Friday's action. The team of Vogt, Chaney Nelson, Kiley Hejtmanek, and Danie Parriott waited nearly an hour to find out they would receive All-American honors. On Nelson's leg of the relay, she was tripped up from behind and would go from sixth to ninth place. The team was unable to make up the difference over the final 1000 meters, however, the team from Lindsay Wilson would be disqualified for the contact and Doane would take eighth place.
